Fighting for Justice: Strikes and Protests in Dumfries 1770-1920
New exhibition at Dumfries Museum.
This special display explores working people’s history in Dumfries: their struggles, strikes and protests. This includes strikes by stonemasons, bakers and glovemakers; demonstrations in favour of voting reform including Chartism and public disorders connected with food shortages.
The exhibition includes original artefacts and machinery from factories and printing presses, strike posters and pamphlets, and songs of protest and workers’ rights.
