Gatehouse hit all the right notes in its Midsummer Music Festival at the weekend.

Musicians and singers including Lewis Fergusson, LOKA, the Wave Blues Band, The Greeks, The Dogz, Yoko Pwno and Halfway to Gallowa’ – along with people of all ages at open mic sessions – performed at various venues in the town over the three-day shindig.

The event centred on the outdoor stage opposite The Ship Inn beside the River Fleet, and concluded with a “survivors’ session” at the Masonic Arms on Sunday.

Other highlights included a coffee morning and jam session in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support in the community centre on Saturday – where Kirkcudbright singer-guitarist Harry Thomson had his hair shaved off to raise more money for the charity.

Harry’s sacrifice of his flowing locks brought in more than £300 – while contributions from the public for coffee and cakes added a further £133 to the total. The environmentally-friendly festival also featured a novel electricity generation scheme – a pedal-powered sound system for the main stage organised by Danny Alderslowe from local cycling social enterprise Wheels of Fleet.

Entry was free to all events with donations taken to help enable the Gatehouse of Fleet Festival Group to stage the event next year.
