Its fair to say that Castle Douglas Police Station wont be the same after today following Jean Whalen retirement after nearly 40 years service.

Jean or Mrs Whalen as she is known to some joined Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary in 1984 and worked as a station assistant at Castle Douglas until she joined the team at the Force Communication Centre in Dumfries where she worked as a dispatcher, answering 999 calls and directing Police Officers to calls.

In 2014 Jean returned to Castle Douglas Police as a station assistant until her retiral today.

It was brilliant to have so many officers gather for a send off on Jeans last day when we were able to swap some old war stories. We were particularly delighted to welcome her daughter in law and 3 grand children along to see Jean being presented with her certificate of service and some gifts.

The place wont be the same but we wish Jean a long and healthy retirement.
