Kirkgunzeon Gala, held on Saturday at the Maxwell Memorial Hall and the adjoining paddock, turned out to be a great fun family day out enjoyed by all those who attended.

The annual event is a big highlight for the village and a collective effort by local volunteers ensured the occasion went off successfully.

There were plenty of attractions for everyone of all ages including a laser quest, climbing wall, bouncy castle, a silent disco for the kids, and a Let’s Get Sporty session.

And proceeds from a licensed bar, barbecue, tombola, home baking and teas and coffees brought in much-needed cash for the hall restoration fund.

A fire engine and crew from Dalbeattie, Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes and first responders added their presence to the gala while vintage tractors and a model railway were also on display.

The weather turned out to be much kinder than last year when Storm Betty and lashing rain meant organisers had to hold the event entirely indoors.

Co-organiser John Maxwell said: “It was dry and windy and a wee bit cool but everybody enjoyed themselves.

“Thanks go to our main funders the Kirkgunzeon Community Wind Farm Trust, and to Tesco and the council who also gave us a grant.

“Without all that we could not have done the day.”
