Dumfries Town Board has made its presence known on the High Street by opening its rented headquarters at the Midsteeple Quarter.

The premises at 109 High Street will be a hub for the board of 15 men and women – who put themselves forward with a wealth of experience – to engage with the public to work towards a 10 year vision to rejuvenate the town centre with £20 million levelling-up funding from the UK Government.

The board members say they are determined to involve the public in their plans for the future and will have community engagement questionnaires to hand out from the hub – with residents invited to pop-in – and also copies of the DLUHC Guidance which, it said, will help with understanding where the funds can and can’t be spent.

The board, which will also hold its meetings at the hub, said its next steps are to increase public engagement reach by “getting questionnaires out to the wider community and developing a mechanism to gather online responses over the next month”.

The Dumfries Veterans Garden were among the first to thank the Town Board – whose chairman, Richie Nicoll is a veteran himself – for kindly opening the office yesterday morning as a base and for refreshments prior to them raising the Armed Forces Flag at the Midsteeple.
