Dumfries and Galloway's Barwhillanty Estate to hold picnic prom
Barwhillanty Estate

A special garden open day will be taking place at a Stewartry estate next month.

Barwhillanty Estate near Parton is holding a picnic prom on Saturday, June 8 as part of Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival.

And it will feature an open air concert from Blackbird Opera, led by musical director Cameron Burns and featuring well-known arias, duets and ensembles from operas by Bizet, Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and more.

The group will also be joined for the hour-long concert by guest solosits Claudia Wood (soprano), Lynn Bellamy (mezzo-soprano), Matthew Kimble (tenor) and Phil Gault (baritone).

Barwhillanty has been a family estate since 1884 and is run by Oscar and Maria Yerburgh, who have a commitment to conservation and responsibility to land management.

Everyone is welcome on June 8 – although dogs should be left at home – with the gates opening at 11am and the hour-long concert at 1pm. You can bring your own picnic, reserve a special hamper or enjoy a wood-fired pizza, with some refreshments also available.

Some cover will be available if it rains but people should come prepared with something warm and waterproof, as well as picnic blankets and chairs.

Tickets can be bought at www.barwhillantyestate.co.uk/shop/events/garden-open-day-picnic-prom/

The event is supported by the Innovate Create Cultivate Fund, developed by DG Unlimited and support by the council. It has also been supported by Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival – Support for Ambition (Venues).
