Castle Douglas residents are being urged to have their say in planning the town’s future development in a vital community consultation.

And the local place plan steering group hopes as many people as possible will attend the June 4 drop-in at Castle Douglas Community Centre.

The event, the third to be held, will run from 4.15pm to 7pm.

Attendees will be invited to write down their views on set questions and chat with the team.

Five volunteer members make up the steering group – the forum’s Carolyn Yates and Beth McKee, community council representative Colin Eade, local resident and retired council employee Judith Turnbull and town business owner Tammie Kirk.

According to Mr Eade, who chairs the group, the opinions of the community are crucial for compiling and registering the local place plan.

He said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for the people of Castle Douglas to have their ideas for the future of the town and surrounds to be recorded.

“They will be put before the Dumfries and Galloway Council planning department for inclusion in the new Local Development Plan3.

“Please come to the local public meeting and tell us your thoughts.”

Work on compiling local place plans is ongoing across the country following the introduction of community-led plans by Planning Scotland in 2019.

The initiative was designed as a new right for communities to produce their own plans as part of the revamped Scottish planning system.

Local place plans contain the community’s proposals for the development and use of land and must be considered by local authorities and planning departments.

For anyone unable to attend the June 4 drop-in an online survey is at www.surveymonkey.com/r/localplaceplan

Further information on the place plan is available at media3174.wixsite.com/castle-douglas-local

The steering group is a partnership between Castle Douglas Development Forum and Castle Douglas Community Council.
