Carsphairn Pastoral and Horticultural Society will kick-off the agricultural show season in Dumfries and Galloway with Carsphairn Show on Saturday, June 1.
This will be the 131st annual show and will again be held at The Crofts, Carsphairn by kind permission of Messrs McMorran.
The show is an important event in the south west farming calendar, giving competitors the opportunity to present their sheep to the public and for everyone to have an enjoyable and sociable day out.
Entries for the sheep classes will be taken on the day up until 9.30am. There are sheep classes for confined and open Blackface and open classes for commercial, mules, Bluefaced Leicesters and any other breed – native and continental.
The dog trial starts at 8am. Entries are taken on the field but no individual can run two dogs after 1pm and there is a prize for best run before 12 noon.
The interbreed, young handlers and collie dog judge is Alan McClymont, Kirkstead, Yarrow and the interbreed champion will receive the Furmiston Trophy, £250, and a meal for two, kindly donated by the Clachan Inn, Dalry.
The 100th Show Trophy will this year be presented to the winner of class 19 – mule ewe lamb.
Alan Shennan, Farden, Girvan is judging the confined blackface, commercials, mules and Bluefaced Leicester classes and Malcolm Coubrough, Hartside, Lamington is judging the open blackface classes. Miss Fiona Gilligan will be judging the any other breed sections while the dog trial is being judged by Chris Toner, Drimsynie, Lochgoilhead.
The children’s pet class and the dog classes will take place in the afternoon from 2pm and these are being judged by Mrs Helen Bell, Stewartry Vets, Castle Douglas. These will be followed by the children’s sports with prizes for the races being kindly donated by Carsphairn Shop and Tearooms.
Bairn Banter, a family stay and play group from Carsphairn, will have a tent on the field with various children’s activities to which all children are welcome to come and try.
In the Lagwyne Hall, there will be the usual sections for baking, preserves, handicrafts, flowers, plants, walking sticks and the children’s section. The hall will be open to the public at approximately 1pm.
Catering and bar facilities will be provided by Drysdales on the showfield.
