McDonald’s are pushing on with a bid for a second drive-thru in Dumfries.

The burger barons have lodged plans with the council for a £4 million development on Annan Road to add to its existing outlet on Lochside Road.

The proposal, which the fast food giants claims will create 120 jobs, has been submitted after around 50 people attended a consultation in Dumfries last month.

Senior acquisitions surveyor for McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd, Andrew Crewther, said: “We are delighted to have submitted our proposals for a new drive-thru restaurant in Dumfries, marking our commitment to opening a second restaurant in the town.

“Our engagement with the local community has shown there is strong demand for a second drive-thru restaurant in Dumfries, with 68 per cent of respondents writing to confirm their support for our proposals.

“Our proposals will deliver substantial inward investment to the local area, as well as creating 120 new jobs for local people.

“I’d like to thank all those who have taken the time to provide comments on the proposals throughout our consultation programme. We will continue to engage with residents and other local stakeholders throughout the planning process and beyond.”

The proposal, which is for a site on Annan Road near the Premier Inn, includes a drive-thru with nearly 50 parking spaces and two electric vehicle charging bays, as well as recycling and waste facilities.
