Two of the region’s MSPs are hoping it will be their dog which has its day later this month.
Pooches shown by South Scotland MSP Emma Harper and Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson are in the running to be named this year’s Holyrood Dog of the Year.
They’re calling for constituents to put aside any “pawlitical” differences and vote for them online, ahead of 13 finalists going paw-to-paw at the Scottish Parliament gardens in Edinburgh on April 29.
The competition, organised jointly by The Kennel Club and The Dogs Trust, aims to celebrate the unique bond between humans and their canine companions and the positive impact of dog ownership.
And it also aims to raise awareness of dog welfare issues, as well as providing politicians with the chance to discuss matters with canine experts.

Among the 13 finalists hoping to be top dog are Mr Carson’s Labrador Corrie, with Ms Harper taking part with a former rescue dog from The Dog’s Trust.
