Staff at Lochmaben business pledge to raise another £50,000 for charity

Staff at Lochmaben-based Russell Roof Tiles have pledged to raise another £50,000 for five local worthy causes this year.

The concrete roof tile manufacturer’s charity Give4Good initiative – which has donated more than £135,000 to charities and good causes since its launch in 2022 – will give a cash boost to Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre, Lockerbie Wildlife Trust, Dumfries Veterans Garden, Boreland’s Sports Driving Unlimited and Moffat Mountain Rescue Team.

They have all been nominated by the firm’s staff, with a focus on either the homeless, mental and physical wellbeing or animal welfare organisations.

The charity challenge will also raise funds for two international organisations – Odisha FC and Footprints Family.

Odisha FC is an Indian Super League football club which helps children to reach their dreams of becoming football players, and to have a positive social impact on the local community, while Footprints Family is a Burton-on-Trent-based charity which supports residents who are living through hardship in Kenya. Over the years, the charity has provided clean water, electricity, a free school bus, and the knowledge of farming techniques for local children.

Russell’s managing director, Andrew Hayward, said: “When we first set up Give4Good, we wanted to create a long-lasting legacy that would financially support charities for many years to come. We’re now on our third year of running our Give4Good initiative and we’ve forged strong relationships with each of the charities and the incredible people who keep them running. It’s been eye-opening to hear their stories and heartwarming to know how much our support is appreciated. Together, we’re making a real difference.”

Over the past two years, the team of 150 have taken part in numerous company-led events and spent more than 700 hours volunteering and fundraising.
