Curler Logan Carson received a hero’s welcome when he returned to Dalbeattie High School on Tuesday.

He was back in classes for the first time since skipping Team GB’s mixed curling rink to gold medal glory in the Winter Youth Olympic games in the Republic of Korea on Thursday.

He was greeted by a guard of honour, with bunting and flags lining the corridors.

Primary school pupils came to the Heughan Hall to pass on their congratulations and he then visited the primary five, six and seven classes to sign autographs, answer questions and – most importantly – let them see his medal.

Logan, along with Holly Burke from Hamilton and Tia Laurie and Archie Hyslop, who attend St Joseph’s College in Dumfries, won gold in a tense final against Denmark on Thursday.

The action was livestreamed at the school, with proud pupils and staff cheering the team to glory.

And while Logan is catching up on the classes he missed, it won’t be long before he’s back on his travels.

He and Archie, along with Charlie Gibb and Logan’s brother Orrin – as well as dad Ryan, who is coach – will be representing Scotland at the World Junior Curling Championships in Finland, which begin on February 17.
