Dumfries Doonhame Music Festival cancelled for 2024

A festival which has attracted thousands of music lovers to Dumfries has been cancelled.

Rising costs have been blamed for the Doonhame Festival not taking place at the Crichton Estate this year.

The first event was in 2019 and last year’s spectacular drew top acts such as Fun Lovin’ Criminals, GUN and Bay City Rollers to Dumfries.

Co-founder, Sandy Sweetman, said: “2023 was a hugely positive experience for us with the festival taking shape and finding its format. However, balancing ticket price with the rising costs of putting a festival together and looking at our own limited availability to dedicate the necessary time to the project sadly makes it unsustainable.

“We cannot be more grateful to all the people who supported us throughout this journey, from the dedicated team who put so much time and energy into helping us throughout the last five years, the Crichton for accommodating us, sponsors and everyone who committed by buying tickets.”

The first Doonhame took place in 2019 but was cancelled the following two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It returned in 2022 with acts such as The Waterboys and The Feeling taking to the main stage, with Cast and From The Jam among the performers the following year.

The festival, which took place in July, also featured dance and DJ tents and stages as well as camping and activities for the whole
family.
