Kirkcudbright Book Week is turning a new page thanks to a cash windfall.

The festival – now in its third year – has been awarded £4,525 by the Robin Rigg Community Fund to support the event’s growth.

The annual week, which this year will run from March 4-10, was created to celebrate the developing literary scene in Kirkcudbright and across the region.

It prides itself on openness and inclusion and this year will feature around 40 professional and aspiring authors at more than 20 events at various venues in Kirkcudbright.

The Robin Rigg award has helped organisers Kirkcudbright Book Week Society attract authors from further afield, including elsewhere in Scotland and from England.

Book Week Society convenor Chris Walker, from the Selkirk Arms, said: “This year’s Book Week will see a significant expansion in our programme, and the award from the Robin Rigg Community Fund is good news for us, supporting as it does our ambition for the event.

“The forthcoming event is the third to be held, it is a quality programme and we are very excited about the potential for Book Week as it goes from strength to strength.”

Robin Rigg Community Fund is administered by the Solway Firth Partnership with funding provided by RWE, the operator of the offshore renewable energy facility.

Solway Firth Partnership manager, Clair McFarlan, said: “Solway Firth Partnership, on behalf of the Robin Rigg Community Fund, is delighted to be able to support Kirkcudbright Book Week 2024.

“We are sure the event will be a great success and will attract an audience inspired by writers and the wonderful coastal location.”

Organised by the Kirkcudbright Book Week Society, Kirkcudbright Book Week will include talks, recitals, meet-the-author sessions and book launches.

It will also feature appearances from authors in genres ranging from poetry, short stories, novels and general non-fiction to children’s writing, crime fiction, romantic fiction, historical fiction and memoir.
