Two Dumfriesshire rugby clubs and supporters took a dip in freezing waters on New Year’s Day to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Annan Rugby Club encouraged as many people as possible to join in the Doddie Dook on Monday afternoon at Powfoot and gave a £10 donation each to the charity founded by the late great Doddie Weir to raise funds for research into Motor Neurone Disease.

Moffat Rugby Club and supporters opted to do their early morning Doddie Dook in the Loch of Lowes.

All those who took part in either proved to be a hardy bunch and gave a great start to the Doddie Aid challenge for 2024 in the fight against MND.

Doddie Aid was founded by former Scotland captain and British and Irish Lion, Rob Wainwright, and over the last three years has seen nearly 80,000 participants cover eight million miles and raise more than £4 million for the foundation in recent years.

Now, for the new year, the mass participation fundraiser is encouraging people to get active for five weeks from January 1 until Sunday, February 4, and raise funds to help find a cure to Motor Neurone Disease.

The event splits participants into six districts, with the winning district being the one which covers the furthest distance over the duration of the event.

Dumfriesshire falls into Team South and anyone who wants to join in – clocking up miles, via the app, for any form of exercise – can do so by downloading the Doddie Aid app, donate £20, and claim a free district snood.

More information on the challenge is available on its website and only time will tell which district racks up the most miles and is crowned Doddie Aid Champions 2024.

In the meantime, anyone who does not want to take part in Doddie Aid but would like to make a donation can do so at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/doddieaid2024teamsouth
