Around 20 people took part in Dumfries and Galloway Metal Detecting Club’s Christmas rally on Saturday.
The group gathered at Larglea Farm just outside Crocketford, spending the day searching for hidden gems under the surface.
The club’s Steven Steele said: “There were a lot of finds but nothing spectacular.
“It can be a bit hit and miss – you can get a bit of land that’s had lots of activity and you get all sorts of things.
“There were still wee interesting pieces. Someone got a silver bracelet and I found a military button from around 1850 from the local Galloway Volunteer Rifle Corps militia.

“There must have been a couple of pocket watches lost in a couple of fields, I found the back of one and someone else found a bit that we thought was the same one but we compared sizes and it was different. There must have been a few careless folk!
“It’s just the luck of the draw – we had one at Tinwald and got all sorts of things.
“We thought with Larglea being where it is there might have been a bit more.

“Someone found a coin from around Charles II’s time from the mid 1600s, which was probably the oldest thing.”
The club, which can be found on Facebook is hoping to hold a few more rallies next year.
Steven added: “We’re getting a lot more interest as a lot more folk are into it as a hobby.
“The problem is land permissions are at a premium.
“A lot of dectorists have their own permission but don’t really want
rallies as then there’s nothing left for them to find.
