Dumfries cemetery improvements welcomed by baby loss charity

A regional charity has welcomed improvements to a garden area for bereaved parents in a Dumfries cemetery.

Andy Mcquaker, of Mcquaker landscapes, selected baby loss support group Dumfries and Galloway Sands as his charity of the year.

After reading about their work at St Michael’s cemetery on Facebook, Andy contacted the local charity to offer his services free of charge.

Andy and his daughter Hannah improved the area for bereaved families who find comfort in visiting the area.

A flower border was created around the existing Max Nowell sculpture by gardener Astra Anderson who also volunteered her time and expertise for the charity.

Jim and Beth Burnett, also gardeners and bereaved parents, and their grandson Rhys, also kindly gave their time to the project.

The materials were generously provided at no cost by Russell Currie of J&J Currie building supplies and many of the plants came from Heathhall Garden Centre.

Dumfries and Galloway Sands is delighted with the finished result and thanks all those who support its vital work with local bereaved parents, particularly those involved in this project.
