Stewartry young people nominated for Dumfries and Galloway Youth Awards
The 2022 Dumfries and Galloway Youth Awards

Young people from the Stewartry are among the finalists for this year’s Dumfries and Galloway Youth Awards.

More than 100 nominations were submitted for the awards, which aim to recognise the achievements, journeys and stories of the region’s young people and youth organisations.

Rose Benson from Castle Douglas is a finalist in the culture, arts and entertainment category with Sean Allan, also from Castle Douglas, in the sport section after he won a gold medal for judo in this year’ sSpecial Olympics.

His coach, Luke Struthers from Dalbeattie, is in the running for the volunteer youth worker of the year prize.

And Dylan Guenther from Castle Douglas is shortlisted for young volunteer.

Communities committee chairman, Councillor Ian Blake, said: “We received an extremely high number of quality nominations for this year’s awards.

“All the nominations showcased the fantastic achievements of young people from across Dumfries and Galloway.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries on Thursday, November 23.
