A popular Dumfries bar and restaurant has been put up for sale at just under £1 million.
It will mark the end of an era at The Cavens Arms on Buccleuch Street, which has been owned by Gary Jeffries and his wife Faye for two decades.
It has come to the market because of their plans to retire and spend time with their children Bronwyn, Don and Edward, who has a rare condition called Bilateral Frontopartial Polymicrogyria.
Gary said: “Having thoroughly enjoyed the last 20 years we now feel it is time to step away from hospitality and spend more time with our children, especially our youngest son who requires full-time care.
“We first opened in 2003 with a vision of selling great quality, homemade food and real ales in a friendly and welcoming town atmosphere, and we have done so for the last 20 years.
“We would like to thank our long-serving, dedicated staff for their tremendous hard work and our loyal customers who have both made Cavens the success it is today.”
Specialist business property adviser Christie & Co is handling the sale and describe the Cavens as “a perfect stop-off for the many visitors exploring Dumfries’ local attractions, including the Robert Burns House and Devorgilla Bridge”.
The bar, which has 15 CAMRA Real Ale awards, is on sale for freehold offers over £950,000.
Tony Spence, associate director at Christie & Co, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-performing bar and restaurant in the centre of Dumfries.
“The business would be well suited to a couple given the high-quality owners’ accommodation which is included, however, would slot perfectly into an existing portfolio due to its high level of turnover.
“Over the years the pub has won an impressive total of 15 CAMRA Real Ale awards and has become renowned for its range of seasonal Scottish specials and famous fish and chips, prepared by a team of skilled chefs.”
The bar has a fully fitted commercial kitchen, owner’s accommodation, a large beer garden and a strong turnover.
