Drivers have been warned that the A75 will be closed in both directions at Gretna over this weekend.

The road will be shut from 8pm on Friday until 6am on Monday.

Diversions will be in place an there will also be two overnight closures of the A75 in both directions between 8pm and 6am on Monday and Tuesday – along with temporary traffic lights and lane closures during the daytime on both days between 6am and 8pm.

All traffic management will be removed by 6am on Wednesday, November 8.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking the essential eastbound resurfacing work on the busy section of road used by around 10,000 vehicles each day.

Transport Scotland said the works are essential to improve the condition of the carriageway and will reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

A spokesperson said: “The work will be carried out using a combination of overnight closures, lane closures, and a full weekend closure, with a signed diversion in operation. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential work takes place.

“All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.”

The signed diversion mean eastbound traffic will leave the A75 at the B6357 Stapleton Road and take the first exit at the roundabout on to the B721 Annan Road, heading east to the Caledonia Park roundabout where all Gretna, Stonehouse and northbound motorway traffic will take the first exit on to the B7076 Glasgow Road.

Southbound motorway traffic will take the third exit on to the B7076 Glasgow Road and head south to join the A7076 and turn right on to the M6.

Westbound traffic will leave the A75 at the B721 Gretna junction, before turning right on to the B721 Annan Road and head east to Annan to take second exit at the roundabout to the B6357 Stapleton Road and re-joining the A75.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
