High-fliers at a Dumfriesshire business have taken their charitable fundraising to new heights.
A courageous team of seven from Russell Roof Tiles at Hallheaths near Lochmaben took on a 10,000 ft tandem skydive as part of the company’s Give4Good programme – which has already raised more than £40,000 for local charities this year.
Ian Jones, Liam Cameron, Adam Clark, Robert Thomsen, Aaron Dowling, Riley Irving and Rafal Ptak from the firm made a 360-mile round trip to Tilstock Airfield in Shropshire to take the jump.
Their efforts have raised £4,000 and works manager Ian – who was one of those who achieved the skydive – said it was “incredible”.
He added: “The consensus from everyone who jumped was that it was a totally amazing feeling.
“We’d do it all again in a heartbeat, not only was it a once-in-a-lifetime experience but we’re really proud to have raised £4,000 towards our Give4Good initiative.”
The team of 50 at the Lochmaben site aims to raise cash for 10 charities and good causes locally including Veterans Garden Dumfries, D&G Canine Rescue, The First Base Agency, Lockerbie Wildlife Trust and Moffat Mountain Rescue Team – all of which were nominated by the staff.
Russell Roof Tiles – which also has a factory at Burton-on-Trent – originally set up its Give4Good neighbourhood and community initiative in January 2022 and the total team of 150 have taken part in 10 company-led events and spent more than 500 hours volunteering and fundraising.
Already the roof tile manufacturer, has raised £42,000 – surpassing its initial £40,000 target – with more events still to come.
Andrew Hayward, managing director at Russell Roof Tiles, said: “We are so proud of the team for taking on the challenge, putting in the time and effort, all while fundraising for our selected charities.
“We believe in going above and beyond, not only in our business but also in our efforts to support our community, and it was fantastic to see our Lochmaben team getting involved.”
