Castle Douglas Rotary attracts two new members
Castle Douglas Rotary president Cliff Robertson, centre, with new members Mal Williams and Randy Rushing

Two new members were welcomed to Castle Douglas Rotary at a recent meeting.

President Cliff Robertson introduced Mal Williams and Randy Rushing, both residents of Castle Douglas who bring new experience and skills to the club.

Mal is a keen supporter of the town’s Men’s Shed and Randy is an active volunteer at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.

The club is building up its membership through new meeting styles, novel support groups and friends and has an ambitious programme of community focussed projects and events.

There are now less than 60 sleeps to Christmas and the club has reinstated its Santa Elf bank project but with a twist. People are asked to put their contact details on their bank and every donation will be entered into a raffle for a not to be missed prize. The club has partnered with Better Lives Partnership, who will distribute Elf Bank labels in the coming weeks for people to put on bottles, cartons or whatever container they are using for their small change.

Details of Santa’s visit to the town between December 4 and 7 are being finalised with his management team and they will be published in The News and on social media.

And the Forward Group is repeating their highly successful Christmas event for the town’s kids on December 10, as well as holding another of their popular quizzes.

All the funds collected are used to support the club’s activities in the town and respond to funding requests from local deserving good causes.

The club regularly meets at the Kings Arms Hotel and everyone is welcome to come along and check them out.
